Bleeding in Red
Bild - Tasque (1981), Claude Garache
I DEATH
curled up like a foetus in a mother’s womb
she is lying on her bathroom floor
naked and wet and cold
the water
hoping it would end her suffering
burnt her skin
leaving red traces on her body
the liquid flames could not swallow her pain
it is eating her up from the inside out
slowly but steadily
death is trying to escape her womb
longing to get out
it is making its way through her body
tense and tired
trying to survive this agony
she screams
II RELEASE
blood is running down her thigh
like the stream of silent tears following the curves of her face
blood blood blood
the colour of pomegranate seeds
finally she thinks
a sense of relief settles in her body
still numb from the horrors of the night before
her body is slowly waking up
coming back to life
what is lost is found again
she is bleeding
heavily
she is bleeding
freely without any restraint
she is bleeding
unapologetically
blood running down her thigh
III REBIRTH
blood is running through her veins
deep red and warm
it flows through her body keeping her alive
allowing her to move through the ebbs and flows of life
gently she raises from the ashes of her former selves
embracing her power to create and to destroy
she transforms the grave within her
into fields of poppies
growing wildly until harvest death’s return
which yet again soaks the soil in blood
